Paul Warren, LCSW

‍I came to therapy by a winding road: over a decade of nomadic life and manual labor, carpentry, automotive mechanics, farm labor, years of union organizing, community organizing, street level community service work and work in refugee resettlement. Along the way, I have witnessed the resilience of people facing real struggles and I have experienced what becomes possible when we’re given space to name our problems and the means to make change.

I earned my MSW from New Mexico Highlands University in 2023, training at a public defender’s office with people involved in the criminal justice system and in a high school counseling teens before becoming employed as a therapist in community mental health. I received my independent licensure in 2026 after working on an ACT team with clients experiencing severe mental illness. I now practice out of Durham, NC and via telehealth in New Mexico .

My approach is person-centered and strengths-based. Just as I’ve seen in so many of the people I’ve worked alongside, I believe you already carry much of what you need to grow and move forward. My role is to help you find it and gain new tools to put it to work. I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), mindfulness, and Solution-Focused therapy, along with elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and narrative therapy, tailoring our work to what fits you best.

Outside the office, I’m a husband and a father, and when I’m not shepherding my youngest son to basketball, or fixing a car, you’ll find me fishing, hiking, or camping.
